Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design

CPTED Strategy

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is a strategy to prevent crime through designing buildings and open spaces in such a way that criminals will have no place to hide in waiting, or be able to commit crimes out of public view. To increase the safety of occupants, workers, vendors, and patrons, the following aspects of building plans are examined:

  • Lighting
  • Natural surveillance
  • Corners
  • Ingress and egress
  • Parking
